UNO FAQ

Frequently asked questions (UNO FAQ) about rules in the UNO

Do you have to say UNO?

The unwritten rule says that when you have a card left on hand, you must say "UNO." "Uno" means one in Spanish, so it is pretty logical. If you forget to say "UNO," you must pick up two penalty cards from the deck and stand over your turn. When you put down your last card, some people say that you have to say "UNO out," but according to UNO themselves, these are not the official rules. However, it is a little different if you drive with that rule but can arouse many emotions if you ignore this unwritten law.

Can you go out with a unique / cheat card?

No, is the most common answer (and what we think you should play by). However, there are some variants with rules where you can go out with any card, but there must be some excitement?

Can you lay several cards at the same time?

Again, there are slightly different rules for this. In a regular UNO, you can only add one card at a time. However, you can play according to the variant that you can put several cards on top of each other if it is precisely the same (i.e., you have two red 2s, you can put them together, but not a red 2nd and a green 2nd). This also applies to special cards.

You can also play with "in," which means that you can throw in the exact same card even when someone else puts it. So if an opponent plays a red 2nd and it is not your turn, you can throw it in if you have time before the next player lays his card.

Can you put special cards on top of each other?

This is somewhat unclear, and both variants seem to exist as a rule. It seems more common for player 2 to lay a special card even if player 1 has already laid one, but you can, of course, decide that it is not approved if you want.

What to do if the pile of cards runs out?

Take up all the cards laid out except the top and shuffle to a new draw pile. Be sure to mix well, as they are in pretty good order otherwise.
