China is a huge country, and i have only been there 4-5 times, this including trips to Hong Kong and Macao.
I am always left with a split feeling about this country, on one site, there's so much amazing stuff to see, but on the other hand, everything is so backwards in this country.
Its difficult to exchange money, even in the banks it can last 30-45 minutes, the ATM's, in Beijing, but figure it's the same everywhere, can only be used with Chinese cards with 6 digits codes. At least you can use your card in many hotels and restaurants, so if this is possible, why don't they have ATM's for foreigners?
They do have WI-Fi though at most hotels, only problem it's close to impossible to connect if you do not have a chinese card in your phone, and should you be lucky to connect, all you get is chinese pages, al in chinese.
Getting around can be tricky too, cause cab drivers (in general) do not understand ONE word of english, even words like ATM or KFC ecc. they are clueless. So going to one of the many amazings sights, be sure to have the hotel to write the name in Chinese, and do not forget the card from the hotel, so you can get back.
Be also aware that they close many of the sights every monday, for cleaning it's said ! And it's not just the cab drivers that are clueless, it seems like most everyone. we stayed at a pretty nice middle class hotel, last time, it included breakfast buffet, problem were that it were all cold, cause the staff did not know that they needed to light up the small burners under the gastro tray, even after i (tried) to tell them and handed one of the burners to the waiter, he just looked at me, and went with it to the kitchen, and never returned it. next day still no heat under the trays.
It feels like a country of unfriendly clueless people.
